ATM Machines Thailand

ATM Machines Thailand

The best way to get a good rate on money exchange in Thailand is by using one of the ATM machines (bank teller machines) found nearly everywhere. Depending on your bank, you will get very close to the international rate (check www.xe.com before you go). Here are some things to keep in mind about ATM machines in Thailand:

Always check with your bank before you go about fees for overseas transactions, it is normal for a 1% – 5% fee to be levied.

Always specify an amount of Baht that guarantees you will get some small bills. An example is “1980″ rather than entering “2000″. If you simply type in “2000″ you will receive two 1000 Baht notes which you will never be able to break. It is actually possible to have so much money that you cannot spend it in a place where poor people have no change!

Try to use ATM machines in Thailand that are attached to banks during the daytime. If something goes wrong and your card is captured, you stand a better chance of getting it back on the spot.

Despite how bad you really want to just go spend your new Baht, keep your receipt!

ATM machines Thailand are a magnet for beggars and worse because they know why you are there. Be prepared and be cautious at night when you walk away from one.
